Leeds Bradford Neurophysiotherapy Teaching Centre
At Leeds Bradford Neurophysiotherapy, we are at the forefront of current, evidence-based practice and have an active commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD). All our therapists continually update their knowledge by attending courses and reviewing current practice.
Continual Professional Development (CPD) group
The ethos of the practice is to highly value CPD and be informed about scientific development in the field of neurology and neurological physiotherapy. We share learning partly through having monthly CPD sessions at the practice. Any other physiotherapist treating patients with neurological problems, who does not have in-house clinical teaching sessions, is very welcome to join us (no fees). Please call for more information.
Sessions include feedback from courses attended, practical workshops and invited speakers.
Care Skills Training
Therapists from Leeds Bradford Neurophysiotherapy have been very involved in a voluntary project to develop training resources. The resources are for nursing and care staff working in nursing and residential care homes, in the community and in hospitals. The goals of the Care Skills Training, is to improve the knowledge and skills of staff, so they are able to keep vulnerable people as active as possible. As well as to improve comfort and protect body shape through good postural management. The Care Skills Training includes a falls reduction module and assisting with feeding components.
The Care Skills Training, teaching resources are freely available for any therapist, please contact us for more information. Physiotherapists can access the materials directly on interactive iCSP (interactive Chartered Society of Physiotherapy).
These training resources were the focus of a research project funded by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), delivered by Bradford Hospitals, Leeds University, and our Leeds Bradford Neurophysiotherapy practice.
Train the trainers.
We also deliver our ‘train the trainer’ course nationally, teaching others to deliver the Care Skills Training materials. Organisations we have delivered training in association with include MS Society and Leeds Community NHS trust Association of Chartered Physiotherapists with an Interest in Neurology (ACPIN) and William Beveridge Foundation.
Care Home Staff and Community Health Care assistant training
Our therapists are pleased to deliver the Care Skills Training course to care organisations in West Yorkshire. All of our therapists who deliver the training are qualified trainers with PTLLS training certificates.
We also deliver bespoke courses for small groups of carers related to an individual or to voluntary organisations such as MAECare- Moor Allerton Elderly Care.
Suzanne Froggett – one of Specialist Physiotherapists is a member of the National Back Exchange. She is able to deliver the full range of moving and handling training as well as therapeutic handling training.
In support of the development of future physiotherapists, the practice offers placements for two physiotherapy students from Leeds Beckett University twice a year. The students assist and observe sessions, with patients’ permission. They never lead sessions or treat independently at the practice.
Students receive one-to-one teaching from our clinical specialist physiotherapists and have the opportunity to support the development of advice and management plans and exercise programmes for patients. As well as working in the clinic, our students have the opportunity to observe and support physiotherapy treatment in hydrotherapy pool, people’s homes and nursing homes as well as other environments such as gyms and in outdoor spaces. Students will usually also have the opportunity to attend a number of Multidisciplinary Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings with us and see the vital role that physiotherapists have to play in working with other professionals.

“Thank you all so much for a great learning experience over the last 5 weeks. I appreciate all the time spent answering my questions, involving me in treatment sessions and contributing to my development. I’m sad that this is my final week! “
