Karen qualified from Bradford University with a First-Class Honours degree in physiotherapy in 2003 and began her career working for the NHS in East Lancashire then promoted to working within a dedicated neuro-rehabilitation unit treating a wide variety of conditions, later moving to North Yorkshire in an NHS specialist stroke unit.

Karen joined the practice in 2011 bringing a wealth of expertise in neurological rehabilitation, she has excellent assessment skills and works dynamically with a high level of specificity to help her patients achieve their goals.

Committed to providing sound evidence-based practice Karen is an active member of specialist interest groups AGILE and was a committee and national board member of ACPIN, she has completed both basic and several advanced Bobath courses. She is dedicated to helping all her patients to move efficiently to maximize their independence and quality of life.

Her interest in complex Parkinson’s has led her to study and treat Camptocormia, Dystonia, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP). She recently attended conference overseas including the international congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Nice which was attended by 7,000 delegates from around the world.

Karen was an associate researcher on a large-scale feasibility trial, Posture and Mobility Training Package for Care Home Staff (PATCH) which looked at the impact of training carers on the importance of postural management and good handling skills in care homes. This trial involved training care staff and subsequent data collection within several Care Homes in Yorkshire the results of which were published in the Age and Aging Journal in 2020.

As well as managing her clinical load at the practice Karen is currently a visiting Research Fellow at the Bradford Institute for Health Research where she is working with a team of researchers on a novel approach to improve the posture of Care Home residents.
